The Problem

Many People Fail to Start and Maintain a Skincare Routine

The skincare market is rapidly growing with a saturated amount of products, leaving it difficult to discern what is effective for an individual’s specific needs and skin type. While dermatologists can provide guidance, their services are often expensive and inaccessible to many. GlassSkin helps bridge that gap by offering personalized skincare support, making effective skin care more accessible to underserved communities.

The Solution

Development of a Personalized Skincare

1. DAILY SKINCARE ROUTINE

  • Users complete a questionnaire (which can be changed later) upon onboarding, which then creates a personalized morning and evening skincare routine

  • Product recommendations based on skin analysis

  • Completing the skincare routine checklist will be documented in the skin diary

2. PROGRESS TRACKING

  • Users track their skin process over time through photos

  • Documentation of the users' hydration level, blemishes, and wrinkles in skin diary

  • Documentation of products used in morning and evening routine

3. EDUCTIONAL INSIGHTS & RESOURCES

  • Articles created by GlassSkin will be available to read which addresses topics such as skin types, product ingredients, application, etc.

  • AI Chatbot is available 24/7, and certified health workers are available for assistance

Rapid Increase of Awareness in Skincare Among All Age Groups

A boom in the interest of skincare occurred with Kpop groups began gaining popularity worldwide as they began making an appearance on American TV shows and awards. Many young adults wanted to achieve the “glass skin” look, and influencers began testing the “Korean 10 Step Skincare Routine.”


Now, all age groups are interested in how to prevent anti-aging to maintain a youthful look. According to Statisa:


From 2018 to 2024, the revenue of the skincare market worldwide has increased to $26,615.88 million USD.

User Interviews

My Interviewees Struggles to Maintain a Skincare Routine Due to Lack of Knowledge

I conducted surveys and interviews to understand their needs and preferences through these questions:

  1. Do you currently have a skincare routine? If not, have you considered starting?

  2. What is the most difficult part of starting/maintaining a routine?

  3. How do you usually choose new skincare products?

  4. Where do you learn about skincare (articles, experts, TikTok, YouTube)?

TESTING & IMPROVEMENTS

One Change was Made...

Upon testing the prototype, many could not find the chatbot button. Now, the chatbot button is placed on all screens for easy access, rather than being solely on the insights page.

  1. Deeper Demographic: Interview more people with diverse age groups, skin types, and genders

  2. Design for Accessibility: Use high-contrast color combinations for users with diverse visual abilities

  3. Increase User Involvement: Working on a solo project in 8 weeks left little to no room for back-and-forth user testing
